Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to deal with incidents related to the abuse of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. It includes monitoring and controlling drug and alcohol related incidents, and completing required documentation and reporting requirements in accordance with work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) workplace procedures and drug and alcohol policies and procedures. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare to monitor and control drug and alcohol related incidents
  • Work is prioritised and sequenced for completion within acceptable timeframes following consultation with relevant person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Risk control measures for identified hazards in the workplace are prioritised, implemented and evaluated in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Relevant stakeholders are provided with possible solutions and options within the scope of workplace procedures
       
Element: Scope of responsibility regarding the drug/alcohol abuse related incident is obtained and confirmed with relevant person/s in accordance with job requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Responsibilities for first aid and other emergency incidents at the work site are confirmed with relevant person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Issues related to the drug/alcohol abuse are referred to appropriate person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Monitor and control drug and alcohol related incidents
  • WHS/OHS policies, procedures and safe work practices are followed to eliminate or minimise incidents and hazards
       
Element: Potential hazards and safety risks associated with drug and alcohol related incidents are reported to authorised person/s for directions in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Unplanned events and non-routine problems encountered when monitoring and controlling drug and alcohol abuse incident are referred to authorised person/s for directions in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Problem-solving skills are applied and relevant remedial action taken when monitoring and controlling drug and alcohol abuse in accordance with workplace, drug and alcohol policies and procedures
